Great job, Lightning! Our athletes competed in all of the events (100, 800, 4x200, 400, mile) as well as the field event practices (long jump and shot put). We saw lots of smiles and lots of personal bests! Results of running events are available here. Thank you so Katrina Mingos for capturing lots of shots of our runners in action!

An email just went out to all registered families of Session 2 Lansing Lightning athletes. If you are not on the mailing list, please email Coach Becca so you can be added!
Email: Session 2 starts TOMORROW (Tuesday, June 26) from 6-7pm at the Lansing Track. We'll practice every Tuesday and Thursdays (except July 4th) and then wrap up Session 2 with the FLRC track meet on July 23. Our coaches for the summer season are myself (Coach Becca), Coach Margaret, Coach Mike, and Coach Tristan. We will communicate via email and lansingcommunityrunners.org We plan to practice rain or shine -- but if it's heavy rain/wind or there's a threat of thunderstorms, we'll send an email to cancel. Athletes should bring water bottles and wear sunscreen to the track. We start warming up promptly at 6pm. We will distribute racing singlets tomorrow; these need to be worn at the track meet on July 23. We also have Lansing Lightning performance t-shirts available in youth and adult sizes; we are selling these at cost for $8 each (cash or check only). Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Looking forward to seeing you at the track! Go Lightning! Our Lansing Lightning athletes from Session 1 competed in their first meet of the season, participating in the Finger Lakes Running Club all-comers track meet at Lansing High School. We were really proud of how hard they all worked and how supportive they were of their fellow competitors and their teammates. Great job! Results can be found here. We are just one week away from our first track meet of the 2019 summer season! Some important information:
On Saturday, October 6, the Lansing Lightning headed to the Lansing Center Trail along with scores of other youth runners to compete in cross country races. Thanks to Ian Golden for photos of our runner! Our Session 2 participants prepared for running events in addition to learning some of the basics of all of the field events as well as hurdles. Special thanks to all of our volunteers who helped out at practices and at the final meet!
With another huge youth running club turnout, the meet on Tuesday, July 17, was an exciting event for runners and spectators alike. Congratulations to all of our Lansing Lightning athletes on their strong efforts! Complete results can be found here. Important notes:
What an exciting first meet we had! There were over 140 runners competing on Tuesday night -- and over 30 of those runners were from the Lansing Lightning! Youth track teams from Corning, Auburn, Horseheads and Ithaca were also in attendance, making it an exciting and energetic evening. We cheered on the area's youngest and oldest runners and everyone in between! Complete meet results can be found here.
Some important updates:
Two years ago, I was blogging here about watching the Boston Marathon.
This year, I finally did it. What I didn't say in the interview was how many times I almost cried during the weekend of the marathon. I felt overwhelmed and nervous on the drive out. I was overcome with gratitude when my team sent me a video compilation of well wishes the night before. I felt so, so cold before the race. And then the gun went off, and I looked to the sky giving thanks for the rain that was mixing with a few tears that leaked out and gave thanks for the chance to on the line of this race that wasn't just historic for all the reasons that we all know but also would be a part of MY history. I have never run a race like I ran this Boston Marathon. I wasn't trying for my fastest time and was instead aiming for maximizing the experience. I high-fived every hand that was offered to me, smiled and made eye contact with every person who yelled out my number, stopped and hugged my mom on Heartbreak Hill and celebrated when I saw my dad with just a few miles to go. I turned the corner onto Boylston Street, the tears did come along with a smile that I couldn't wipe off my face. It's a bucket list item that was worth the wait and won't ever be forgotten. Congratulations to all of our participants in this year's Youth XC Series at the Lansing Center Trail! We had 77 finishers across 2 races; 20 runners in the 2K and 57 in the 3K. Special thanks to the Lansing Recreation Department, Friends of the Lansing Center Trail, and the Lansing High School varsity cross country teams for their help with this event! Results are below. Hope to see you next fall! ![]()
